D2D Visit Report – Meri Grigoryan

17/03/2023/in ESO, Stroke Research /by Carine Legio

Awardee: Meri Grigoryan, MD Neurologist

Host Institution: University Hospital of Bern, Prof. Arnold Marcel

Period of visit: 2 -14 September 2022

I would like to express my deep gratitude for the ESO’s generous contribution and support for my clinical practice in University Clinic of Bern – Inselspital. This experience was extremely informative  and important for me, which motivated me for my future clinical work.

I am very happy that I had a chance to work with Prof. Arnold Marcel and his hardworking team. During my stay I acquired new practical skills. In the Emergency department, I was very impressed how fast the doctors were working and investigating the patients, or the decision making for thrombolysis and thrombectomy. I was in Stroke Unit, where I participated in morning rounds with doctors, where they discussed each patient, and each case with investigations and treatments in great details. I have been involved in outpatient clinic with neurosonography, which was a great experience for me, because in Armenia neurologists don’t perform this examination, and i learned how to do it. I hope that after i return to my country i will be involved in stroke team and do neurosonography. All I learned, I’ll try to invest the same in our clinic and share my new knowledge with my colleagues.

I also got the Stroke pocket guideline in English, which i will use with pleasure in my daily work. I am so grateful to all organisers of ESO for their huge support and the opportunity which they give to young neurologists from different countries, allowing them to be involved in advanced medical clinics and develop their experience.

About the ESO Department to Department Visit Programme

The Department to Department Visit Programme aims to provide insight into stroke departments outside the applicant`s home country through a grant of EUR 1,500 offered to up to 10 young physicians and researchers to support a short visit of a week or as a contribution to a longer visit to an European department or laboratory.
