4th ESO-EAST Meeting at 4th ESOC 2018 in Gothenburg

Traditionally, one day before the ESOC starts, representatives from 33 countries have met to share the progress in their countries and to exchange the experiences in stroke care improvement in their countries.
ESO-EAST is the first comprehensive international program of improving stroke care in Europe, initiated by the European Stroke Organisation in 2015 initiated by ESO President Valeria Caso and Robert Mikulik.
Excellent achievement of this meeting is the fact, that for the first time stroke data from the Registry of Stroke Care Quality (RES-Q), including more than 400 hospitals from 50 countries. The Workshop was chaired by Francesca R. Pezzella and Natan Bornstein.
„Registry of Stroke Care Quality has become a global issue. Irrespective if experienced stroke center or newly established – needs and problems can be identified and improved“, agreed by Valeria Caso, President of ESO and Robert Mikulik, ESO-EAST Chair, who opened the meeting.
Bart van der Worp, ESO President elect visited the fruitful workshop and stressed the role of exchange of experience.
Principles of leadership with practical tips for project implementation were presented by Axel Kohlmetz (EVER Neuro Pharma). Francesca R. Pezzella shared her experience with the cooperation with governments and international bodies (e.g. WHO) as important partners for large scale project realization.
16 countries presented their stroke performance measured by the RES-Q Registry in the ESO-EAST poster session and local success and troubles were discussed in a very friendly and constructive atmosphere.
Veronika Svobodova, ESO-EAST Manager and Andrea-Madalina Grecu, RES-Q Manager & Platform Architect gave an update on changes and new development.
Sandy Middleton reported about Quality in Acute Stroke Care (QASC) focused on Fever, Sugar, Swallowing (FeSS). Madhu Kanakapura introduced the successful strategy of ANGELS Initiative in South Asia. Epifania Collantes (Philippines) and Nguyen Huy Thang (Vietnam) discussed huge progress in stroke care in their countries. Milan Vosko presented new ESO-EAST logo and common marketing & communication strategies. Presented results needs to be published, stressed Natan Bornstein. Numerous delegates from ANGELS Initiative attended the meeting. The close cooperation of ESO-EAST Project and ANGELS Initiative leads to improvement of acute stroke care, as reported by Thomas Fischer (Boehringer Ingelheim).
Congratulation to all motivated and dedicated neurologists who have collected stroke data using RES-Q in following countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Austria, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Macedonia, Rep. of Moldova, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.
