Robin Lemmens

Dr. Lemmens is the head of the stroke unit at the University Hospitals Leuven. He graduated from the KU Leuven Medical School in 2003 and finished his residency in Neurology in 2010. He has a research interest in acute treatment of stroke, secondary prevention, the role of neuroimaging in acute stroke and the neurobiology of stroke recovery. In 2012-2013 he was a visiting neurologist and researcher at Stanford where he worked with Dr Gregory Albers and Dr Gary Steinberg. After his return to Belgium he continued his clinical activities for patients confronted with cerebrovascular diseases and his research activities in neuroimaging and stroke recovery. Since 2012 he is a clinical investigator of FWO Flanders. He has published over 350 research papers and is/was supervisor of 20 PhD students. Additionally he is national coordinator of clinical trials in acute stroke treatment, secondary stroke prevention, stroke recovery and obtained FP7 and Horizon 2020 funding. He is a fellow of the European Stroke Organization, previous Chair of ESOTA (European Stroke Organisation Trial Alliance). He serves on several committees and boards at the University Hospitals Leuven and is vice-chair of the Belgian Stroke Council.
