Quality monitoring through comprehensive data collection is crucial for identifying gaps in stroke care. By leveraging this data, hospitals and countries can standardize treatment protocols, ultimately saving more lives and reducing the overall stroke burden. ESO encourages hospitals to make quality monitoring as part of routine clinical practice and use this data meaningfully to identify gaps and standardize stroke care. As part of the Activate Quality campaign, a joint effort with the World Stroke Organization, ESO is sharing this world report prepared by RES-Q, based on data collected in March 2024. We are committed to using these insights to drive improvements in stroke care across Europe.

As part of the ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, RES-Q is excited to announce the release of the updated version of the RES-Q standard form, primarily featuring updates in the Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) section.

This update is based on the latest evidence from the INTERACT3 and ENRICH trials, as well as aligned with the WSO stroke certification indicators.

One of the main enhancements in this version is the inclusion of the care bundle incorporating protocols for early intensive blood pressure lowering and management algorithms for hyperglycemia, fever, and reversal of anticoagulation.

In addition to the updated form, we are also updating the dashboards and reports.

This updated form will replace the current version available on the RES-Q online platform from 1 September, 2024. The PDF version forms will also be available on the RES-Q website: www.qualityregistry.org.

We believe these updates will significantly benefit stroke patients with ICH by ensuring they receive evidence-based care.

The RES-Q platform has officially launched!

The platform features a strong legal framework, improved functionalities, and is built with the capacity for future upgrades, which will be rolled out progressively. You can access the new platform via the RES-Q official website at www.qualityregistry.org.

Here’s what you need to do to keep participating in RES-Q:

Existing hospitals and users must re-register on the official website by selecting Join RES-Q. The Hospital Local Coordinator should register the hospital, followed by the other users
New hospitals are invited to register by clicking on Join RES-Q
You will receive your login details by email within two to three business days.
Upon receipt, you will be set to begin utilising the new platform for global quality monitoring.
Your prior stroke care data will be transferred in accordance with legal requirements, within two month after you complete your registration.
Starting in the first quarter of 2024, the new RES-Q platform will serve as the evaluation portal for the ESO/WSO Angels Award and EMS Angels Award program.
Starting in January 2024, the platform is aligned and supports the stroke center certification program conducted by the WSO, ESO, and AHA/ASA.

The new site and platform will exclusively track the quality of care for patients admitted from January 1, 2024, forward. The previous website (qualityregistry.eu) and platform will continue to support quality tracking until December 31, 2023, and will be available for entering data on patients discharged in 2023.

What gets measured gets improved

RES-Q is one of the largest international stroke quality registry. Registry of Stroke Care Quality (RES-Q) was launched in 2016. It is currently used in 98 countries across continents, with > 2,500 hospitals (both public and private) and 740,000+ patients data and counting (December 2023).

Absolutely free of cost, RES-Q is a ready platform for hospitals to use it as a quality improvement tool. It allows you to capture the whole patient pathway until discharged and follow up after 3 months.

The registry provides real time feedback on stroke care quality in form of dashboards and reports, and provides benchmarking against national average and in some countries against all other hospitals. Also, hospitals can easily download their source data. RES-Q National coordinators have access to national data and can provide them for national activities such as quality improvement or research.

RES-Q Registry uses one harmonized data collection form, both for primary as well as comprehensive stroke centres. Form is simple and uses dynamic fields. It is available in 15 languages including English.

RES-Q was initiated as an initiative of ESO EAST (European Stroke Organization- Enhancing and Accelerating Stroke Treatment), to help hospitals and countries improve their stroke care systems. RES-Q works in close collaboration with World Stroke Organisation (WSO), European Stroke Organisation (ESO), American Heart Association/ Stroke Association (AHA/ ASA), Angels Initiative, SVIN Mechanical Thrombectomy 2020+ (SVIN MT2020), and many other national stroke societies worldwide.

The RES-Q Registry platform development and maintenance by the health Management Institute (HMI) has been supported by the European Stroke Organisation as a part of the comprehensive quality monitoring program

RES-Q Registry is GDPR compliant. The data captured in RES-Q is used by several countries to publish their country level data in National and international journals. This data is also used by countries to bring policy change at a country level and process change in the hospitals.

Hospitals registered in RES-Q automatically get to participate in the ESO Angels Award programme.
