ESO Blog and YSPR corner 2018: A year of Lessons and Progress

As we say hello to 2019 the main focus is on looking ahead. However in the last ESO blog post on behalf of YSPR, we would like to take time to reflect on some of the accomplishments of ESO directed to the young physicians and researchers.
Specific highlights include:
- We have formalised the partnership with the European Stroke Journal, the official peer-reviewed journal of ESO. We now provide regular article summaries and comments of high-impact studies published in the journal, which are posted simultaneously with the ESJ manuscript online publication. - We have had a wide range of topics in our Friday educational posts to the ESO blog. Case reports on funny turns and rare causes of stroke, qualitative research, recent advances in reperfusion therapies are some of the topics covered. These small and informal articles are written primarily by YSPR members and other early career physicians and researchers. The common goal of helping and engaging readers interested in stroke medicine to take care of patients and improve scientific projects. Here are some of our top posts from 2018:
- We have actively shared blog posts and other information on social media, promoting the development of an online community of young people interested in stroke.
- Activities directed to the early career members have been promoted at ESOC, including the YSPR mentoring Workshop and poster tours. We believe this is an important opportunity for young researchers to present and discuss their projects with current stroke leaders and the overall ESO community. The abstract deadline for ESOC in Milan 2019 is January 23. Come and join us! Visit the #ESOC2019 website if you want to learn more.
- The ESO Department-to-Department Visiting Programme was, once again, a success, supporting the exchange of another six young doctors to specialized stroke departments, improving their expertise and creating an opportunity for career development. For 2019 the grant has increased from 1000 to 1500 euros and will be awarded 10 young physicians and researchers interested in the stroke field. If this sound like something for you, read more here.
The YSPR committee is also very glad with the continuous efforts of ESO to promote valuable educational activities for early career stroke physicians, as the ESO Stroke Summer School and the ESO-ESMINT-ESNR Winter School.
Finally, we thank to all members who have been participating in these initiatives. Their value only comes from the interest you give them and we rely on your feedback to improve each year.
We accomplished a lot and had a lot of fun in 2018, but we are looking forward to doing even more in 2019! Let’s hope we can work hard again this year, pushing forward these and other projects in order to raise the quality of stroke medicine and promote the future of all young physicians across Europe.
