NATIONAL MEETING OF THE HUNGARIAN STROKE UNIT HEADS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT THE PURPOSE OF THE MEETING:

On March 13, 2017, the annual meeting of the stroke unit heads organized by the Hungarian Stroke Society took place in Budapest. The Hungarian Stroke Unit leader met and presented the current situation in Hungary regarding acute stroke management. They also reported on new initiatives and healthcare programs as well as patient education activities.

THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE MEETING WERE:

To give a summary of where Hungary started, what is the current status and where Hungarian Stroke Medicine is heading towards with regards to acute stroke management?

To highlight achievements and room for improvement

To support the requirement of implementing quality monitoring in the daily routine in order to be comparable to other countries and mainly to identify potential gaps where improvement is needed.

SUMMARY OF OUTCOME:

Both ’number of thrombolysis’ and ’number of thrombectomy’ have been growing over the last years with a 15% increase from 2015 to 2016.

 

FUTURE PLANS, NEXT STEPS:

From April 1st, the Hungarian Stroke Society will host a data collection site, including basic questions (no. of all stroke, no. of thrombolysis, no. of stroke types) that need to be compiled very months by all stroke units.

In parallel, stroke units will start collecting data in RES-Q registry.

These data will be presented to the ministry of health.
