SUMMARY:ESO Educational webinar #26 - When the Weather Strikes: Understandi
ng Stroke Risk in an Era of Climate Extremes
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Vasileios Piperas (Greece) will present the e
vidence linking wildfires and air pollution with increased stroke risk. An
ita Arsovska (North Macedonia) will then examine the growing body of evide
nce linking temperature extremes and rapid fluctuations to both ischemic a
nd hemorrhagic stroke\, and will discuss the mechanisms through which thes
e events affect cerebrovascular health.\n\nBeyond individual patient care\
, we will highlight the challenges that air pollution and extreme temperat
ures pose for acute stroke services\, rehabilitation\, and secondary preve
ntion. While the evidence base for specific adaptations in clinical manage
ment remains limited\, we will explore emerging insights\, highlight knowl
edge gaps\, and consider potential strategies for system-level preparednes
s and adaptation in the era of climate change.\n\nParticipants will gain c
linically relevant insights into risk factors and mechanisms\, as well as
practical considerations for risk mitigation and public health preparednes
s\, while also understanding the areas where further research is needed be
fore management approaches can be definitively adapted.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nRegi
