Meeting Report: Challenges in Stroke VI

The sixth meeting “Challenges In Stroke” hosted by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade and Neurology Clinic in Belgrade Serbia, took place on December 15th in the beautiful historical building of the Rectorate of the University of Belgrad. The meeting, organized by Professor Ljiljana Beslac Bumbasirevic, Professor Dejana Jovanovic and Assistant Aleksandra Pavlovic, was dedicated to gender differences in stroke and secondary stroke prevention.
In the first part of the meeting, lectures were held regarding the different aspects of stroke in women and were given by Valeria Caso from Italy, Hanne Christensen from Denmark, Charlotte Cordonnier from France and Dejana Jovanovic and Aleksandra Pavlovic from Serbia.
In the second section of the meeting presentations on current guidelines but also controversies in secondary stroke prevention were given by Ljiljana Beslac Bumbasirevic, Jasna Zidverc Trajkovic, Milija Mijajlovic, Miroslav Markovic and Predrag Stanarcevic from Serbia.

On this occasion Professor Valeria Caso was given the title of Visiting Professor of the Faculty of Medicine University of Belgrade.

The audience of 70 neurologists and neurological residents from Serbia and Montenegro was engaged in a dynamic and fruitful discussion. The meeting proved to be very successful in widening knowledge on gender differences in stroke and difficult decisions and controversies in secondary stroke prevention.
